PCE takes runner-up spot in industry radio awards

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) in Exeter was named runner-up in the installer category at a national radio industry awards ceremony.

PCE, in Osprey Road, Sowton, has made the finalists’ shortlist of the Federation of Communication Services (FCS) installers’ award for the past four years, winning in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and named as runner-up this year.

FCS is the trade association for the communication services sector representing companies delivering products and services by means of radio, mobile, fixed and IP telephony.

Runner up webcrop.jpgThe installers’ category is officially known as the FITAS (FCS Installer Training & Accreditation Scheme) Installer of the Year award in recognition of good workmanship, proven knowledge and practical ability in providing quality and safe installations of electrical communications equipment into vehicles.

PCE’s entry this year surrounded its work installing covert lights and sirens, and hands-free radio and mobile phone equipment into ambulance officers’ vehicles. 

PCE’s Managing Director Karen Langley collected the runner-up certificate at an award ceremony held in London, which was presided over by former broadcast journalist John Sergeant. 

Jacqui Brookes, FCS Chief Executive Officer, said: “Many congratulations to all the award winners and runners up who in their diverse ways have demonstrated innovation and customer service in the competitive world of UK communications services. Each of the awards was judged by a panel of industry players and representatives from the regulator or academia.”

FCS Installer of the Year 2010

The FCS is pleased to announce Premier Communication Electronics Ltd as the winner of the FITAS Installer of the Year Award 2010.

Karen Langley, Managing Director of Premier Communication Electronics Ltd, was presented with the Installer award by Jason McComb of Audit in Motion Ltd on behalf of the award sponsor Nokia UK Ltd.

Karen commented: “I am delighted and extremely proud to receive the award this year having won it for the last two years in a row. It is pleasing that our industry recognises the skill, expertise and commitment of our engineers. We really pride ourselves on our engineers’ outstanding installation work as many of our clients are involved in mission critical work and rely heavily on the equipment and services we provide.”

John Thomson, of Panorama Antennas Ltd and chairman of the award judging panel, said: “We received a wide variety of entries this year and the three we chose to short-list represented the mobile phone car kit, vehicle tracking and public safety installations sectors.

"The judging panel was looking for a commitment to maintaining technical standards and continuous installer training along with evidence of excellence in customer service. Our award winner, for the third year running, was Premier Communication Electronics Limited who provided a detailed case study on ‘ambulance airwave radio installation’."

The FCS FITAS Installer of the Year Award exists to highlight best practice and quality of service in the in-vehicle communication installation sector.

FCS Mobile Equipment Installers of the Year 2009

At the Federation of Communications Services 2009 AGM and awards celebration in London, Premier Communication Electronics Ltd took the Installer Award for the second consecutive year.

We received a wide variety of entries and this shows the converging technologies that installers have to deal with in the marketplace today”.

“The judges were looking for innovation or a bespoke offering for an installed product or service along with evidence of excellence in customer service. Our award winner, Premier Electronic Communications, provided an excellent case study on 'covert blue light installation' which met all the criteria that the judges were seeking”.

“With the ever expanding requirement for reliable communications in vehicles and the development of intelligent transport systems for the UK, the quality of the install is paramount. The FITAS Installer of the Year Award looks to reward high installation standards and we encourage companies of any size and from any part of the installation sector to submit entries for this award next year.”

Ben Stubbe becomes a FCS FITAS installer & MESF-accredited technician

fitas_installer.jpegFITAS is the FCS Installer Training and Accreditation scheme.

FCS has, since 2003, been the owner of the UK code of practice for the install of communication equipment into vehicles - MPT1362.

In 2007, FCS undertook a review of the code of practice and in May 2008 announced a major update to the code, including its re-branding as FCS1362.

FITAS has been created to provide accreditation to those installers who wish to demonstrate their compentency in working to the 'best practice' guidelines laid out in the code of practice.

In addition, Ben Stubbe has also become a MESF accredited technician.
