Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has chosen to widen its geographical profile by backing one of Gloucester Rugby Football Club’s new Academy players.
Exeter-born Robert Langley, aged 18, who played for both Hartpury College and Exeter Chiefs Colts last season, has been announced as one of the seven Cherry & White senior academy players for the 2010/11 season.
Academy players are full-time professionals who are expected to take part in the Premiership’s A League games while honing their skills in training alongside the senior Gloucester squad to prepare for potential first team selection.
PCE, in Osprey Road, Sowton, Exeter, will sponsor Langley for the upcoming season with the provision of car, complete with rugby-themed number plate.
Tony Vicente, PCE’s communications consultant, said: “Robert is well known to us as an Exeter lad born and bred, so we were only too pleased to offer him a vehicle for next season. We all wish him well in his first foray in the professional rugby arena.”
PCE specialises in radio and mobile communications, including the radio equipment used by coaching staff, referees and stewards during rugby and football matches. PCE provide all match day radios to Exeter Chiefs with coverage extending from Sandy Park to parking facilities at Clyst St Mary.
Mr Vicente added: “PCE has been involved with our new local Premiership club, Exeter Chiefs, for many years, with the provision of radio equipment and other sponsorship support, but our involvement with Robert provides us with an audience in the Gloucester area and therefore spreads our profile across a wider region.”
Langley played for Exeter Chiefs from the age of 14 up through to the current colts, for Devon U15s and U16s and Gloucestershire at U18s and U20s levels. Other representative selections include the England U16s development squad, an England U19s Southern Academies side and England U19s. He also played in the JP Morgan Asset Management Sevens Series in front of the ESPN cameras at Franklin’s Gardens last Friday night where he scored a hat-trick resulting in his first television interview.
