PCE backs Exeter Chiefs and England U18 star

16 August 2011

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has sponsored Exeter Chiefs fly-half Henry Slade to further its dedication to supporting young rugby players.

Having already sponsored Exeter-born Robert Langley, an academy player at Gloucester Rugby Football Club, for the 2010/11 season and for 2011/12, PCE has also opted to support one of Chiefs’ brightest stars for the upcoming season.

Henry Slade1web.jpgSlade was among six young Chiefs players called up for England U18s’ three-game tour in Australia at the end of this month. The 18-year-old has already pulled on a Chiefs shirt having played a major part in Exeter’s run-out in the JP Morgan Asset Management Sevens Series by scoring one converted try and converting all four of his team mates’ tries too.

Born in Plymouth and a former Plymouth College student, Slade has made the move up to full-time Academy status and hopes to combine training with studying at Exeter University from September. He is also dual registered for Plymouth Albion this season, where Chiefs hope he will glean a lot of senior rugby experience at Championship level, while also playing for Chiefs in the Aviva ‘A’ League.

Karen Langley, PCE’s Managing Director, said: “We have supplied and maintained radios for Exeter Chiefs for many years and have also purchased board advertising too, but this year we decided we would do something different and actually show our support for one of the Chiefs’ young players. Having already sponsored Rob at Gloucester, it felt appropriate to invest in a youngster at our local club too and everyone at PCE wishes Henry all the best for his upcoming tour and, of course, for the 2011/12 season.”

And Slade was the hero for England U18s as they kicked off their summer tour Down Under with a 19-8 victory over an Australian Academy U19s side.

He kicked 14 points for the tourists, which included four penalties and the conversion to a try from London Irish scrum-half James Lightfoot-Brown's try.

PCE, in Osprey Road, Sowton Industrial Estate, Exeter, specialises in radio and mobile communications, including the radio equipment used by Chiefs’ coaches and medical staff and match day referees, stewards, car park attendants and catering staff at Sandy Park.
